Man in court for siphon shootings

PA Auckland A 55-year-old Papakura man facing two charges of attempted murder after a shooting on his property has been granted interim suppression of his name. The suppression was granted by Judge Richardson in the District Court at Papakura. Both charges relate to shots being fired bn Tuesday night when two gang members were allegedly seen siphoning petrol from a car. The man was remanded on bail without plea to May 10. The injured gang member was taken out of Middlemore Hospital’s in-tensive-care unit where his condition was described as serious, but improving. He suffered a gunshot wound to the right shoulder and another in the thigh. Detective Inspector Kelvin McMinn said the police would decide tomorrow whether to charge the injured man with theft. The man’s 15-year-old companion has been charged with attempted theft of petrol from a motor vehicle. He will appear in Papakura Children and Young Persons Court tomorrow.
