A. Barnett loss
Arthur Barnett has announced a $295,000 loss for the six months ended February 1. This compares with a profit in the previous corresponding six-month period of $696,000. The company’s directors said turnover, which doubled from $56,253,000 in the latest half-year from $28,656,000 in the previous half-year, had been affected by the withdrawal of the DIC custom card. Directors said it was planned to introduce a new credit card in the North Island later this year. Because of "difficult trading conditions,” the directors have announced an interim dividend of 4c per 50c share.
