South Canterbury women golfers too good
South Canterbury scored its first win in the Templer Trophy match against Canterbury since 1977 when it won the annual women’s contest, 12>/ 2 -lli/ 2> at the Ashburton Golf Club on Sunday. South Canterbury established a one-game lead in the morning round and the teams drew, 6-6, in the afternoon. Of the Canterbury team of five to defend the Stylemaster national inter-provincial championship in Invercargill next month, only Kerrin Starr, at No. 4, won both matches, although the top player, Liz Douglas, had two
halves. Sue Hutchins had a win and a half at No. 2 for South Canterbury. Detailed results (Canterbury names first) were: Morning round L. Douglas halved with S. Hutchins: D. Woodhouse beat A. Seed, 1 up; V. Collis lost to J. Knight, 4 and 3; K. Starr beat H. Hames, 2 and 1; L. Shaskey lost to L. Carrodus, 3 and 2; A. King beat J. Buckley, 1 up; K. Williams lost to P. Bell, 2 and 1; T. Batey beat L. Beattie, 3 and 2; J. Reese halved with H. Chambers; P. Anderson halved with M.
Hore; R. Prescott lost to C. Knight, 3 and 2; S. Johnson lost to R. Cowles, 4 and 3. Afternoon round Douglas halved with Seed; Woodhouse lost to Hutchins, 2 and 1; Collis beat Hames, 2 and 1; Starr beat Knight, 3 and 2; Shaskey halved with Buckley; King beat Carrodus, 4 and 3; Williams lost to Beattie, 5 and 4; Batey lost to Bell, 1 down; Reese beat Hore, 4 and 3; Anderson lost to Chambers, 4 and 3; Prescott beat Cowles, 2 and 1; Johnson lost to Knight, 4 and 3.
