Actor has open-heart surgery

Actor Carroll O’Connor has returned to the set of the television series "In the Heat of the Night” to film the season finale, one month after open-heart surgery. O’Connor’s character, Chief Bill Gillespie, is kidnapped while attending a domestic terrorism conference in Washington in the episode.
O’Connor underwent heart surgery and had his gall bladder removed at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.
