'Jim’s Party’ tip
By
GLEN PERKINSON
The Opposition spokeswoman on finance, Miss Ruth Richardson, last evening tipped a “Jim’s Party” as a certainty to contest the 1990 elections. Mr Anderton would become the “standard-bearer of the people betrayed. He’s hoping to inherit the Earth,” she said. Miss Richardson said the rest of the Labour Party regarded Mr Anderton as a “relic from a bygone era and they would rather him out than be reminded of the past.” Another National member ’ of
Parliament from Canterbury, Mr Philip Burden (Fendalton), praised Mr Anderton as “a man of principle who is consistent and true to himself.” “He has been betrayed by his party rather than he betraying the party he has served for the whole of his life.” Although Mr Burdon disagreed with Mr Anderton’s political philosophy he “had absolute respect for his compassion, respect and concern for New Zealand and New Zealanders.” “He will be heard of again on the New Zealand political scene,"
