Pin-up wrong sort of beauty
PA Wellington A pin-up poster based on the "Keep New Zealand Beautiful” logo has annoyed the head of the anti-litter group. The advertised "high quality poster” pictures a scantily clad woman revealing most of her breasts placing litter in a bin which has "Keep New Zealand Beautiful" embossed on the side.
“Help promote a clean N.Z.” is the headline above the "Truth” advertisement for the $5 posters.
The Keep New Zealand Beautiful general manager, Mr Roy Pottinger, said the posters had been discussed but action against the company which markets them was unrealistic.
Keep New Zealand Beautiful works extensively with children's groups, and Mr Pottinger said he found the poster offensive in the way it degraded women. The poster producer. Mr Paul Cote, an American now living in Wellington, said he was selling it to heighten the New Zealander’s awareness of their beautiful environment.
Mr Cote said he had discussed the poster with Keep New Zealand Beautiful members, who did not seem offended by it. He denied the poster was soft porn or degraded wbmen.
