Arsenal defiant
The English soccer league leader. Arsenal, has defied the Football League and called off today’s match against Wimbledon as a mark of respect to the victims of Saturday’s Hillsborough tragedy. Liverpool’s title rival had earlier had its request to postpone the Highbury match turned down by the League and was asked to play on. But after a special board meeting, the chief executive, Ken Friar, said: “Our hearts go out to the people of Liverpool and, in view of the sad events at Hillsborough, we feel it would be entirely inappropriate to play our League match against Wimbledon so soon after Saturday’s tragedy.—NZPA-AFP.
