Air N.Z. plans fleet expansion
PA Wellington Air New Zealand will boost its fleet with two more Boeing 7675, the first in November and the second in April next year. "This acquisition, coupled with the arrival of our first Boeing 747-400 in October and a second in August next year, signals a massive growth phase for New Zealand’s flag carrier?’ Air New Zealand’s chief executive, Mr Jim Scott, said. “Our bigger fleet will allow us to take advantage of the tourism opportunities around us and will provide a much needed spur to New Zealand tourism and this country’s ' foreign exchange earnings,” he said. In 1992 the airline will
receive its third Boeing 747-400, the biggest and latest Boeing variant. By September next year the airline will have seven Boeing 747 s (two 400 series) and seven Boeing 7675. The two series 200 Boeing 7675, powered by Pratt and Whitney engines, come from China Airlines, of Taiwan, and will undergo modifications for long-range flights before being placed into service. As well as flying overseas routes, the additional Boeing 767 s will be used to service the- airline’s domestic marketplace by providing additional capacity at peak times on main trunk routes.
