Addington market Good prices paid for top quality animals

A good sized but selective crowd of buyers gathered at the Addington market yesterday to pay good prices for top quality animals. Hoggets and ram lambs sold particularly well with prices above those of last week. Good quality woolly lambs were also in demand and with fewer two-tooths on offer prices were buoyant. A shortage of killing space at the works for prime cattle meant buyers were particularly selective. Pig buyers were noticeably selective. There will be no sale at Addington on Tuesday but on Wednesday of next week both store and prime stock will be offered for sale. Prime lambs Ram lambs sold well with the best selling up to $3 above last week’s prices. It was a strong market for all other lambs with prices $1.50 to $2 above last week. Top lambs sold for $2B to $3l. Demand for lambs was good with the quality of those offered better than in recent weeks. There was a large yarding composed of mainly medium to good quality lambs. The interest shown by several outside buyers helped the prices to strengthen. A total of 1720 lambs were yarded yesterday compared with 1828 last week. Values were: Heavy lambs: $22 to $25 with odd sales up to $3O. Medium lambs, $l7 to $22. Light lambs, $l4 to $l7. Sales included. — H. M. Roberts (Scargill), 4 at $30.60; C. Buyer support for prime sheep was queit good with outside buyers boosting the interest shown in woolly sheep and hoggets. A number of drought-affected light ewes are still being offered for sale and a number of two-tooths are being offered as prime stock rather than store stock. The number of sheep offered yesterday was noticeably larger than recent weeks. Overall the quality of animals offered was good with good demand for woolly sheep and lighter condition ewes with good pelts. Prices fetched for twotooths were up $2 on last week with fewer being offered and demand therefore greater. A total of 3615 prime sheep were offered compared with 3184 last week. Values were: Best of the shorn ewes to $ll. Medium ewes, $9 to $lO. Light ewes, down to $5. Best of the woolly hoggets sold to $23.40. Best of the shorn hoggets to $l6. Light hoggets down to $l3.
