Chch man promoted

A former Christchurch man has been promoted as the new Deputy Chief of Naval Staff at Defence Headquarters. Captain Karl Moen, who was born in Christchurch, will assume his new post on May 11 and be promoted to commodore. Captain Moen will succeed the present Deputy Chief of Naval Staff, Commodore Somerford Teagle, who has been promoted to Rear Admiral to assume the top position of Chief of , Naval Staff. ist, joined the Royal New Zealand Navy in 1958 and as well as service on New Zealand cruisers and frigates, has also served aboard the Royal Navy submarine H.M.S. Taciturn. He has held various positions, both at sea with the Navy’s frigates, and at Defence Headquarters and Naval headquarters at Auckland. He was promoted to the rank of captain in January, 1987, and in August that year was appointed the Director of Defence Intelligence in Defence Headquarters.
