Clarendon premises to reopen?
By
CULLEN SMITH
Two restaurants and a bar, which were closed abruptly in Christchurch at the week-end, may reopen soon but the management is guarded about the details. Staff of the Clarendon Towers’ restaurants, Madison’s and Rossini’s, and the Clarrie’s Bar were told on Saturday they were not required. But they have not been laid off.
The restaurants and bar remained closed yesterday but the executive chef, Mr Jeff Austen, said there was a possibility they would reopen soon.
Mr Austen said a series of meetings between interested parties was held yesterday but he refused to comment on why the restaurants and bar had closed or when they might reopen.
The assistant secretary of the Hotel and Restaurant Workers’ Union, Mr Marty Braithwaite, said the union was not sure what was happening at Clarendon Towers. Staff were confused and the owners had made themselves unavailable, he said.
