Early exit from squash

PA London The New Zealand junior champion, Glen Wilson, ended a dismal spell in Europe by making an early exit from the British Open squash championship yesterday. The Wellington player was beaten by England’s David Poole 3-9, 6-9, 9-0, 9-4, 9-1 in their first qualifying round match at Lambs Squash Club in London. Wilson, considered to be New Zealand’s best young

prospect for future honours, seemed on course for victory when he stormed into a 2-0 lead but then lost his way losing the next three games to crash out of the championship. It was better news for the women with two out of the three qualifiers still in with a chance of making the championship proper starting tomorrow. Jillian Oakley won both her matches yesterday in straight games, against England’s Bett

Dryhurst and Camilla Dora, of Sweden. Annette Owen had a walkover in her first match before beating the world over-40 champion. Averil Murphy, of England, in her second match. The only loser was Anne Hui beaten by England's Linda Charman in four games. New Zealand’s only other qualifier, Rory Watt, is not due to play his first match until today.
