Navy posting

Commander Robert Eckford of the Royal New Zealand Navy, has been promoted to captain and appointed Director of Force Equipment Plans in Defence headquarters. Captain Eckford, born in Nelson, is a navigation specialist who joined the R.N.Z.N. in 1960 and has served at sea aboard New Zealand frigates, as well as in a Royal Navy submarine.

In August 1987, he was appointed Director of Naval Operations and Plans in Naval Staff headquarters.
