New Recruit scandal allegation

NZPA-AFP Tokyo The Japanese Prime Minister, Noboru Takeshita, allegedly received 30 million yen ($NZ370,625) in campaign contributions from the Recruit Company in addition to 20 million yen he admitted to last week, the “Asahi Shimbun” newspaper reported yesterday. The newspaper said Recruit, which is at the centre of a major stock trading scandal, bought 1500 tickets at 20,000 yen each for a fund-raising party for Mr Takeshita in Morioka, Iwate Prefecture, on May 30, 1987. On Friday Mr Takeshita admitted receiving 20 million yen in campaign contributions from Recruit at an earlier fundraiser in Tokyo on May 21, 1987. The newspaper said that a day after the May 30 party, company executives entertained Mr Takeshita at a Recruit-affili-ated golf club near Morioka, and flew him back to Tokyo in a helicopter allegedly chartered and paid for by Recruit. Asked by Japanese reporters to confirm the report, Mr Takeshita said he would ask his aides to investigate.
