Upsets leave event open
PA Hamilton Fourth-round upsets threw the Freyberg Masters golf tournament wide open at St Andrews in yesterday’s only round. The overnight leaders, Waikato and Otago, both lost their unbeaten records to join Wellington, Aorangi and Taranaki with three wins and one loss, while the two-times winner of the Challenge Realty-sponsored 40 years and over tournament, Auckland, slipped back to sixth place after tying with Bay of Plenty. The defending champion, Wellington, presented the expected tough test for the home team yesterday, .beating it, 3-2, while Hawke’s Bay caused a major upset by beating Otago 31/j-l >/ 2 for its first win of the tournament.
