Gilpin earns maximum points

Gary Gilpin, a junior reinsman with Brian Kerr’s West Melton stable, took maximum points in the First Canterbury Junior Drivers’ Trials Series Final at Addington Raceway yesterday. Gilpin guided the Vince Davies-trained News Of Fame to a frontrunning success in the CO penalty-free pace, earning 10 points in the tworace series final. The Motukarara reinsman, Brent White, driving Nina Marie, trailed the winner to the straight and could not overhaul News Of Fame in the run home, failing by half a head. White earned seven points for second, with John Howe (Nimble Franco) gaining five points for third. David Earnshaw (Majestic Mist) and Roddy Butt (Ariel) were others to earn points, two a piece, when they dead-heated for fourth.
