Sitcom set in London
When recently widowed Molly Bickerstaff arrives from the north of England for a prolonged visit with her daughter, she finds that London is not what she expected. She does not want to be any trouble to her daughter, Kate, and her teen-age granddaughter, Suzy: “Just carry on as though I wasn’t there,” she tells them. “No Frills” is a' new comedy series starting tonight at 7 on One. Starring as Molly Bickerstaff is Kathy Staff, a familiar face on such shows as “Open All Hours” and “Last of the Summer Wine.” In “No Frills,” Staff, as Molly, takes her nothern sensibilities to the deep south, triggering a serious case of culture clash, and upending the controlled disorder of her daughter’s and granddaughter’s lives. Her art-lecturer daughter, Kate, divorced for nine years, is played by Belinda Sinclair, and Katharine Schlesinger plays 16-year-old Suzy. They are quite unprepared for the indomitable Molly, but then Molly’s down-to-earth, no-nonsense northern style does have its plusses. It will certainly have an impact.
