Christchurch’s city sisterhood with Adelaide was celebrated with, amongst many other things, a parade of Adelaide designer fashion at the Parkroyal Hotel in late March. The unlikely combination of the Wizard and Miss New Zealand kicked off the parade in good old Aussie outback gear by Morrisons. Also included in the parade were Walter Kristensen, who specialises in embroidered and appliqued garments and is the only designer whose clothes are available here; Liz Newman, an innovative knitwear designer who showed wonderful cat and mouse patterns; Suzanne Cole, who showed rich evening and cocktail wear; and Gay Naffine, whose chic and tailored collection, with the exception of a looser fit, was not dissimilar to local winter collections.
