Paparua plans to value its assets

The Paparua County Council will undertake a study of the county’s assets to decide how they should be divided when the county is split in the local government reorganisation.

Cr Rupert Pearce emphasised the importance and urgency of the task at last evening's council meeting. The County Clerk, Mr Bryan Mooar, said the study would involve valuing all the county’s assets, including property and plant, and deciding which assets should go to the new Christchurch City and which to the Selwyn District.

The county chairman, Mr Jack Pethig, said the study would be time-con-suming rather than costly but said there would be plenty of time to complete It before the reorganisation.

The asset valuation would begin before the final district boundaries were known, Mr Mooar said.

Councillors were undecided as to whether the study will be done by council staff or a commercial consultant.

Representatives of the Selwyn District transitional committee and the Christchurch City transitional committee as well as four other members of the Paparua County Council will oversee the study.
