Stakes runner-up sold
By JEFF SCOTT Son Of A Guest (above), a game second to Mark Hanover in the $50,000 National Bloodstock N.Z. Welcome Stakes at Addington Raceway on Easter Saturday, has been purchased by Lightning Blue’s owner, Melbourne businessman, Alan Hunter. The promising Son Of Atelia—Del Guest gelding was flown to Melbourne recently and is to become a stablemate of the top pacer, Riverlea Jack, in John McLean’s Toolervale stable. Son Of A Guest, a member of the big-win-ning Tondeieyo family, only raced twice in New Zealand for the Forbury Park trainer, Paul Kerr, acquitting himself admirably both times at the New Zealand Metropolitan Club’s Easter carnival. His sale was negoti-
ated by the Christchurch agents, P. W. and J. A. Davies, whose previous sale to clients of the McLean stable, Baynes (Bo Scots Blue Chip— Lancia), won his second race in as many Australian outings at Mildura in Victoria last Wednesday evening. Lightning Blue, the 1987 Inter-Dominion Pacing Championship and New Zealand Cup winner for Mr Hunter, scored his first win at Moonee Valley for 18 months when successful for trainer, Jim O’Sullivan, on Easter Saturday. The Lonero entire has been troubled by recurring knee problems this season and his Moonee Valley win came in a lowly-rated sAustl 1,000 event over Imathreat and the former Canterbury pacer, That’s Incredible, also raced by Mr Hunter, but from the McLean stable.
