Woman on TVNZ board

Ms Helen Tourell has been appointed a director of Television New Zealand.

Ms Tourell, aged 40, who is the general manager of TVNZ international, becomes the first woman to sit on the policy-making directorate of TVNZ.

The chief executive of TVNZ, Mr Julian Mounter, said Ms Tourell’s contribution as head of TVNZ international had been outstanding. Over the last year, more than 40 countries have screened, or are now about to screen, New Zealand programmes.

Ms Tourell, who was born in Dunedin, began her media career in 1967 in the advertising department of the “Northern Advocate” in Whangarei.

In 1976 she joined the sales and marketing team of South Pacific Television in New Zealand.
