Greyhounds Banner Line, star set to shine in Breeders’ Stakes

New Zealand’s latest juvenile star, Banner Line, should improve his impressive record when he runs in the N.Z. Breeders’ Stakes, the first leg of the T.A.B. double and the third T.A.B. trifecta race at the Wellington Greyhound Racing Club’s meeting today.

Banner Line has struck a purple patch of form, and the manner he has been winning recently suggests that there are few chinks in his armour.

His biggest threat will come from Crafty Tiree, who scored her first win at Hutt Park in the qualifying heats clocking a swift 30.98 s for the 520 m, a time equalled by another South Island runner in Mainland Magic. Both Crafty Tiree and Mainland Magic have not drawn that well at boxes four and five respectively, and it will be a case of trying to keep Banner Line within range in the early part if they are going to defeat him.

The diminutive Quite Able, rated by trainer Nancy Cobain as potentially one of the best dogs she has handled, appears a leading chance in the Lion Brown Stakes, the second leg of the T.A.B. double.

Her biggest dangers should come from the Canterbury-trained pair Noble Impulse and Jongene Lass, two of 20 South Island-trained dogs at today’s meeting.
