Education
Sir, —It seems to me that if the Minister of Education goes ahead with his present proposals for the running of our schools, national requirements and standards will disappear, education policy will be decided by the pressure group able to exert the strongest pressure and teaching staff appointed according not to qualifications but to whom he or she knows. Insecurity will be rife among our teachers and who is going to suffer? Our young people! If alterations are not made in our plans for “To-
morrow’s Schools,” nothing but chaos lies ahead. Parents belong in schools, we see on television. I see many parents in today’s schools but they do not appoint our teachers. They should have the security they have now to get on with their job — teaching our children. —Yours, etc., BETTY FULLER. March 27, 1989.
