Make your perm look better and last longer

If you spend a lot of money on a really good perm, it is dumb to try and save money by buying your shampoos and conditioners at the supermarket. Supermarket products are fine if your hair has not been chemically treated — but yours has. You need products especiallyfor permed hair.

Fortunately, the hair companies recognise this and all make excellent products, which are sold only through hairdressers because professional advice is essential to use them most effectively. For instance, if you use Redken’s Amino Pond mild protein shampoo, your hairdresser might recommend for best results your don’t rinse it out. You would hardly think of that all by yourself would you? People with perms often love the way they look when they are wet but they do not dry like that. There are several new products to separate the curl and prevent frizziness in the ends to keep that wet look when your hair is dry. Often, your perm looks wonderful in the beginning, but eventually loses condition, and you have to wait for ages before you can have another perm. But if you use the right products, you can have your hair permed and permed and permed, and still keep it healthy and shiny. Professional products for permed hair aim to keep the hair in top condition and to protect the curl and make it last. As a matter of fact, Wella’s speciality range for permed hair is called Curl saver.

Curl Saver shampoo is formulated to clean the hair without stripping it of the natural oils and mild enough to be used every day.

Curl saver conditioner, which is made from plant extracts works on the outside of the hair shaft to give it natural conditioning. It also seals it to protect from sun damage. (Murder on perms).

The Curl Saver treatment, which should be used once a week works

on the inside of the hair shaft, feeding it protein, which is depleted when your hair is permed. It also strengthens the hair and helps maintain its elasticity and curl. Schwarzkopf has a new product called a Post Perm hair Booster, which is excellent if you cannot be bothered washing your hair every day because it can be used on wet or dry hair to balance and condition it. Post Perm hair booster separates the curl and eliminates frizziness in the ends and makes your perm last longer. Schwarzkopf also has a Perm Care shampoo and conditioner and styling agents especially for permed hair and all containing collagen, a naturally rejuvenating protein also used in skin care. Helene Curtis has two ranges for permed hair — the MQ Optimum range of shampoo—conditioner and styling agents, including non-aerosol hair spray, which all contain collagen, and their Quantum range, which has a porosity regulator to control how much moisture your hair absorbs.

Redken have a new product, a.a.c.t. —19, which is a perm and colour revitaliser (or rejuvenator) which seals in the curl, the colour and the condition.

At least, it is not a new product, it has been used by hairdressers for ages. Hairdressers used to dissolve a pill in a solution for individual applications, but the manufacturers have now come up with a stablishing solution, which means the product does not deteriorate and is now sold for home use. — Complied by Rosaleen McCarroll.
