Property valued at $15,000 stolen

Property valued at about $15,000 was stolen form the Baylis Brothers Service Station, in High Street, Leeston, on Thursday night. Constable Alan Brown, of Leeston, said entry was gained some time after 10 p.m. by smashing a lock on a sliding door.

The break-in was discovered at 4.30 a.m. when a baker arrived at the neighbouring premises.

Constable Brown said the burglars appeared to have spent some time inside the service station. They even had time to unbolt a large vice from a work bench. The offenders made off with a $5OOO computer, a $5OOO vehicle tuning machine, warrants of fitness booklets, tools, lubricants, a 10-speed bicycle, gas bottles and items from the office. ,

A large vehicle or van may have been used to remove the property. Constable Brown appealed for anyone with information to contact him.
