Man dies after wool press accident
A Kaiapoi man died in Christchurch Hospital on Thursday after an accident at the Alliance group’s Kaiapoi Plant Fellmongery on Wednesday. The handle of a wool press struck him on the head. He was Biair Leonard Capstick, aged 19. Mr Brian Smith, the
branch manager of the occupational safety and health section of the Labour Department said that preliminary investigations showed that Mr Capstick was baling wool. He was releasing the pressure that is applied to the bale to allow the cap to be sewn on when the handle which released the pressure hit him on the head.
