Area Health Board Te Poari Oranga O Tamaki Makau Ran The Auckland Area Health Board is the largest area health board in New Zealand. It provides a complex and extensive range of services including the most specialised and expensive services available in the New Zealand public health sector. As part of the decentralisation of management and the introduction of general management concepts, three new top management posts are being established for Hospital General Managers at:- • Auckland Hospital • Middlemore Hospital • Greenlane/Nationai Womens Hospitals Each Hospital General Manager will be responsible for the total management of the hospital. Overall objectives will include:- • Delivery of services in a cost effective and culturally sensitive manner • Maintaining and enhancing service standards and quality assurance • Providing leadership and taking initiatives to introduce and manage change • Implementing information management and reporting systems The Board wishes to appoint individuals seeking to make a major contribution to the development of management principles in hospitals. They will be expected to take proactive approach to service development and achievement of efficiency. This requires a high level'of management skills with particular emphasis on providing a vision of customer driven services, setting priorities and planning to achieve objectives, managing organisation change, and leading a multidisciplined management team. While a background in health services is desirable, demonstrable experience in management is considered more important. These positions offer immense challenge and potential for contribution to the improvement of health services management.
