Tourist merger

PA Wellington Newmans Group, Ltd, and The Helicopter Line, Ltd, are planning to merge their motorhome and rental car businesses.

Agreement is subject to Commerce Commission approval. The Helicopter Line operates motorhomes under the Maui and Mount Cook brands and Econo-car rental cars. Newmans Group, majority owned by Corporate Investments, Ltd, runs motorhomes under the Newmans and Horizon brands and the National Rental Car franchise. Newmans has motorhome and rental car facilities at Queenstown, Picton and Wellington and

also has a motorhome fleet in Australia with facilities in Sydney, Brisbane and Cairns.

Murray Valentine, the chairman of The Helicopter Line, said the first step would be to merge operating facilities in Auckland and Christchurch.
