Cup fever briefly
America’s Cup fever gripped the futures market for a short while during the morning yesterday, according to a futures trader.
It was probably the first time since the sharemarket crash of October, 1987, that investors had something to be euphoric about. However, it did not last. In
spite of heavy dealing in Government bonds in the morning, the Government stock contract came back, and the Barclays contract was "astonishingly” weak, March gaining only 10 points, with the closeout today, the dealer said.
