Chch man hooks first prize fish

A Christchurch man, D. Roy, hooked first prize at the Waimakariri River mouth fishing contest. His s.Bkg salmon was the heaviest caught during the two-day competition. The junior section was won by J. Smith, who caught four kahawai to take out first, third and fifth placings.

A total of 152 fishermen entered the competition and 78 fish were weighed in, figures which were both up on last year. The competition- raised $llOO for the organiser, Kaiapoi Jaycees. Results were:

Senior: D. Roy, salmon, s.Bkg, 1; J. Bashford, salmon, 5.3 kg, 2; K. Brown, salmon, 5.2 kg, 3. Junior: J. Smith, Kahawai, 3kg, 1; B. Corbett, Kahawai, 2.6 kg, 2; J. Smith, Kahawai, 2.4 kg, 3. Most fish: J. Meyer (19).
