Scientist Fish 14 This position involves participation in a wide range of tasks relating to MAFFlsh’s fisheries management role and to its statutory responsibilities under the Fisheries Act to protect marine and freshwater fishery resources from adverse environmental impacts. Also to service MAFFlsh’s statutory responsibility under the Marine Farming and Freshwater Fish Farming Act to manage the establishment and development of aquaculture ventures. Applicants would be required to hold a Science, Planning or Resource Management Degree and experience in maritime resource management would be an advantage. Technician/Technical Officer Fish 15 This position requires a person to assist in programmes relating to aquaculture and monitoring of priority fish stocks in the Auckland Fisheries Management Area. Applicants should be formally qualified with a BSc or equivalent tertiary qualification. Previous experience in fisheries work would be an advantage. The appointee will work towards a doctorate in the Malaghan Institute under the direction of Dr Martin Sage, the Brierley Senior Medical Research Fellow. The appointee will participate in a project aimed at determining the earliest lethal changes to mammalian heart muscle cells during experimental heart attacks. This will initially involve immunoelectron microscopy of cardiac tissues and isolated myocytes, with particular attention to alterations in cytoskeletal structures.
