Firm says fish falsely labelled

PA Dunedin Wilson Neill, Ltd, says it has solid evidence that fish sold under the Skeggs name in the United States is in counterfeit packaging. “We have categorically denied that the fish was ours,” the managing director, Mr Colin Herbert, said. “We have been told that the two shipments seized on February 10 were mislabelled as orange roughy.” The cartons contained smooth dory.

“It looks as though the packaging was printed in the United States. Our packaging and printing is done in New Zealand.” "The Food and Drug Administration is treating the matter seriously. They have toughened up considerably in recent years.” Mr Herbert said counterfeiting was not uncommon in the United States. He said Wilson Neill was concerned about the switch and the counterfeiting of the Skeggs name. It was checking what legal redress it had.
