Free admission a feature of Hororata Trots

Even although the Hororata Trotting Club has moved from its traditional location of Hororata, it has still retained the same friendly warmth and charm that made it so popular with horse trainers and the public alike.

The meeting is still a day in the country — except since 1985 the location has been Ashburton and not Hororata.

The Hororata Trotting Club was forced to move to Ashburton after the meeting of 1984 when the looming costs of introducing Jetbet and the decision by the Galloping Club to move to Riccarton forced the shift to Ashburton.

While reluctantly accepted as inevitable, the

move has done little to tarnish the wonderful history of the club.

The standard of nominations for the DB Hororata Cup is evidence of the popularity of the club. Horses of the calibre of Jay Ar Dee, Von Luckner, Willem Vink, Rosy Score, Avalon Skipper, Montini Royal and Gastof will ensure a grand race.

Backing up the Cup is Heat 5 of the DB Draught Fillies Series over 1 mile, a C2 and faster trot, C2 pace, Cl pace, CO and faster trot and three maiden races.

One big attraction for the bettors is that admission to the course is free. The first race starts at 1.10 p.m. and race 10 is timed to start at 5.50. The 30-minute interval between races will also be appreciated by the public.

Intertrack betting will also be available for those wanting to invest on the night gallops at Avondale.

As well as another incentive for bettors, there will be two $250 lucky punter competitions. All they have to do to enter is fill out an entry in the racebook. Dominion Breweries is also running a competition for those who can pick the quinella in the DB Draught Fillies race. For those good enough to pick the quinella they will be eligible to win one of three pairs of binoculars valued at $lBO each.

Again, entries will be in the racebook.

The Ashburton course has all the facilities of the city with all the atmosphere of the country. Because of this the Hororata

Trotting Club is able to give punters the best of both worlds.
