Murray ‘supported’
Mrs Margaret Murray says the feedback has been positive after her decision to back Sir Hamish Hay in the Christchurch mayoralty race. “A lot of people say I have let them down. They wanted me to run for the top job, but when I explain about what is good for Christchurch, they accept that,” Mrs Murray said yesterday. She has been touched by the depth of personal support for her in the com-
munity, she said. Many people had contacted her yesterday after reading of Thursday evening’s announcement of her withdrawal from the mayoral race in favour of Sir Hamish. “The most important thing is a united front against Labour,” Mrs Murray said. “I don’t believe Labour deserves to have any part in local or central government. They have betrayed the people.”
