Mail sorters back

Mail deliveries in Christchurch will be back to normal by Tuesday after sorting staff went back to work yesterday.

The Post Office Union called off a strike at 1 p.m. when New Zealand Post agreed to reopen negotiations over staffing levels. About 40 full-time sorters

walked off the job on Wednesday evening in protest at the employment of at least 20 casual staff who were to start on March 10. New Zealand Post’s manager of operations, Mr Jack Taylor, said the walk-out had caused a big backlog of mail which would be processed on the week-end.
