“Celebrating City” is an exhibition by Alison Ryde about Christchurch which opens at the CSA Gallery on March 8. The themes are lively, optimistic, and in a mood of gaiety and fun. Red buses, red telephone boxes (the odd blue one),
sparkling Square scenes, all feature in a bright but not altogether lighthearted approach. The paintings are mainly of the central city, with some suburban corners and the seaside. Ryde, pictured above by Julianne Myers-Poulson
with “Circulating City,” says she finds endless visual pleasure in the Worcester Street-Oxford Terrace area and the glimpses of the Square, statues and high rise as well as historic buildings. The exhibition runs until March 20.
