Moodie chosen for police job
Dr Bob Moodie has been appointed executive director of the New Zealand Police Officers’ Guild.
The appointment was announced yesterday by the guild’s president, Detective Superintendent Colin Wilson. Dr Moodie will represent 240 commissioned officers, excluding the rank of commissioner. Dr Moodie was the secretary of the Police Association until 1985 and farmed at Karori, near Wellington. He attracted considerable attention for his flamboyant mode of dressing — the caftan.
Mr Wilson said it was the first time in the guild’s 35-year history a paid professional had been appointed to look after the organisation’s interests.
Restructuring within the police would continue to have important implications for guild members, he said. Proposals such as the superannuation changes would require representation from the guild. „
