Work found for 269

According to the New Zealand Employment Service, seven of its -Christchurch Metropolitan centres found employment for 269 job-seekers this month — an increase of 122 on January 1988. In Rangiora for January, 1989, 13 males and eight females were successfully placed in jobs out of a total of 1198 seeking employment. In Ashburton for January, 1989, seven males and seven females were found jobs out of a total 780 seeking jobs.

The service attributes the improved result to an expansion of employer liaison programmes. Response from employers to the campaign relating to the Job Opportunities Scheme had been encouraging. In January 455 job vacancies were notified to the metropolitan centres — an increase of 194 compared. with the same period last year. The service said these jobs covered a wide range of occupations with sales being the most in demand.
