Situations Vacant Situations Vacant GENERAL MANAGER DUNEDIN GAS DUNEDIN Gas offers an exciting opportunity for a person with proven management skills to develop this important energy operation. We use a new process to reform LPG for gas reticulation to commercial and domestic consumers in the Dunedin area. The Dunedin City Council has recently set up a Board to run its gas operation on a commercial basis. It is likely that it will become a company under new legislation. The General Manager will report to the small Board and will have wide delegated powers. Applicants for the position will have previous senior management experience, good public relations skills, and a knowledge of marketing and negotiating strategies. Ideally, they will have had some previous involvement in the energy industry. The Gas Board strongly believes that gas has a future in the Dunedin area and is looking for an innovative and enthusiastic Manager able to increase gas sales and generally “turn the business around.” The post will be particularly attractive to those executives disillusioned with the increasingly poor quality of life and high prices in the North and those who are already living in the Dunedin area and do not want to lose the exceptional lifestyle which Dunedin and Otago offer. A contract for a fixed term, with provision for review, will be offered, the remuneration package being competitive with the private sector. A job description and conditions of appointment for the position are available from Mrs Raffe, Staffing Officer, Personnel Department, Dunedin City Council, P.O. Box 5045, Dunedin, phone 743-854, with whom applications close on March 10, 1989. The applicant will have particular strengths in the areas of: reporting; strategic, manpower and resource planning and the implementation of that plan; and also have the ability to set up a management structure in line with today’s commercial requirements. It is essential that the successful applicant possess superior oral and written communication skills as this person will be regarded as being the official channel of communication between the Committee (later the Council), its staff and the public. The remuneration package is in line with the Higher Salaries Commission recommendations and is commensurate with the responsibilities of the position. A detailed job description and conditions of employment for the position are available from the Secretary, Otago Regional Council Transition Committee, P.O. Box 5135, Dunedin.
