Goat corp out
Southern Goat Corp, Ltd, of Invercargill, has gone into receivership. The Bank of New Zealand has appointed Mervyn Cook, of Deloitte Haskins and Sells, as receiver. The company’s 200 shareholders received letters this week advising them of its worsening financial position. In the letter, Southern chairman Cliff Broad said the collapse of the live-goat market, the deaths of more than 2000 goats in February,. 1987, and the high cost of borrowed capital had had a detrimental effect on the company’s continued viability.
