NZPA-AAP Sydney Australian stocks closed stronger and near the day’s high as the weaker local dollar continued to entice both overseas and local buyers to the sharemarket. "It’s more dollar buying than anything and the market should move up further if there is no bad news from overseas,” one broker said. "Everyone’s still watching the Dow very closely.”
At the close of floor trading, the all ordinaries index had lifted 11.5 points to 1492.9. The gold index rallied on the attractive Australian dollar bullion price and surged three per cent, or up 43.2 points to 1455.0.
The all industrials index climbed 10.3 points to 2477.4 and the all resources rose 11.7 to 755.8.
About 80.74 million shares worth 177.22 M dollars were traded nationally, as gains outnumbered falls by about 11 to nine.
