Countback for Masters
Two years ago Bob Bradley won the Spalding Canterbury Masters (over 40 years) golf title on a countback after a three-way tie. Yesterday at Shirley he lost on a countback after he and Des Turner had both scored 156 for 36 holes.
Neither. Turner (Christchurch) nor Bradley (Russley) were too keen about the system used to determine the champion, Bradley suggesting that the organisers in future years introduce a sudden death play-off should a tie occur.
The scoring was generally high on a hot, dry day and only Bradley and Turner managed to break 80 in both rounds.

The Canterbury team, to be confirmed for the New Zealand Freyberg Masters tournament in April, is: Bradley, Bob Hill, Roy McLauchlan, Peter Harvey and lan Walsh. Leading scorers were: 156: D. N. Turner, 78, 78; R. H. A. Bradley, 77, 79. 157: I. D. Dobson, 77, 80; I. D. Walsh, 76, 81. 158: N. M. Griffiths, 80, 78. 160: B. M. Walsh, 79, 81. 161: R. McLaughlan, 77, 84. 162: D. M. Alexander, 79, 83; L Starr, 80, 82.
