Murderer plans to marry
PA Auckland Brian Ronald McDonald, convicted of the murder of a Mainstreet Cabaret worker, Margaret Bell, in 1979, will marry the social worker who visited him while he served eight years, eight months in Paremoremo jail. A prison source said McDonald and the social worker had had a relationship for some time. She was believed to have met McDonald at the prison gates when he
was released on life parole earlier this week. The prison superintendent, Mr Keith Hounslow, said he did not know anything about McDonald’s wedding plans. “Private visits were his affair. If he is marrying a social worker then she’s not one of ours.” McDonald has spent about 14 of 15 years in jail. He earlier served five years for the manslaughter of a teenager, Ronald Blyth, at a Mission Bay party.
