Drivers to face judge drunk?

PA Auckland Drunken drivers should have to face a judge before sobering up, says one of the country’s top traffic bosses. Their first stop after being caught should be the dock, said Assistant Chief Traffic Superintendent, Terry Hoskin. He said in Auckland that he backed, the introduction of special courts in which a judge could see the state in which a driver was apprehended. “I’ve had people in cars so intoxicated I’ve had to carry them out of the car. The next day they are driving. Mr Hoskin, who steps down this month after nearly 33 years in traffic enforcement, the last eight as head of the Auckland or northern regions, called for a “back to basics” approach to behaviour on the country’s roads.
