Soccer sides’ sign

The Miramar national league soccer team has announced several new signings for the coming season which kicks off on April 16.

It has contracted Mike Irving from Manurewa, Chris Riley from North Shore and Paul Brydon from Papatoetoe and has been negotiating with Papatoetoe’s former All White striker, Colin Tuaa. The Capital city’s newest 'league side. Waterside Karori, has also been active in the transfer market.

It has picked up Phil White, Richard Romijn and Gary Loughran from Wellington United, while the former Napier midfielder, Phil Jackson, will move south to link up with Waterside. The former Nelson United striker, Mark Wroe, has joined Hutt Valley while further north Grant Schofield replaces Frank Van Hattum

as Mount Maunganui’s goal keeper. The runner-up last season, Mount Wellington, has announced its squad and it includes no less than 12 present or former All Whites. Acquisitions from last season include Roger Gray from West Auckland, Tony Levy from North Shore, Grant Lightbown from Brisbane Lions and Darren McClennan from Lyndale. The club has also announced a $lO,OOO Braun Shavers Super Series preseason competition for the five national league teams in Auckland.

The sponsor will put up $5OOO in prize money and the same amount to cover promotion for the series which has been restricted to teams from Mount Wellington, Papatoetoe, North Shore, Manurewa and Waitakere

On the local southern league scene Rangers has lost the experienced defender, lan France, to Technical while the fullback, Dean McKay, has been training with Christchurch United. Gains include the striker, John Boatwood, from Western while the promising goal keeper, Howard Nicholas has joined from Burndale. At Western a number of under age Canterbury representatives have joined the new coach, Tony Harvey. They include Andrew Nuttall (Christ’s College), Liam McHugh (Papanui High School), Nathan Astle (Shirley Boys’ H.S.), Jon Gregory (St Bede’s) and Craig Grimwood (Nomads).
