Blind bowling team

PA Auckland Six blind bowlers have been selected for the New Zealand team to compete in the fourth world championships in Zimbabwe in June. They will compete against seven other countries in a round robin of singles, men’s pairs and mixed pairs. Three years ago in Sydney, New Zealand finished third of the

competing countries. The team, including a man and woman from each category of handicap, are— Men: 81, Brian Bush (Auckland); 82, Bill McNamara (Nelson); 83, Les Hunt (Marton). Women: 81, Dorothy Burrows (Tauranga); 82, Alice te Paea (Hamilton); 83, Margaret Chandler (Wellington). Coaches: Colleen

Hendry (Taranaki), Arthur Powell (Auckland), Tim O’Brien (Auckland), Nancy Kuch (Hamilton), Ivan Lovelock (Hamilton). Manager: Albert Kuch (Hamilton).

The team is faced with finding $60,000 for travel and accommodation. John Flett, of the Balmoral Bowling Club in Auckland, is organising a national appeal.
