Q.C.’s daughter found dead
PA Auckland The daughter of a former Attorney-General has been found dead in her Wellington flat. The police said an inquest would be held into the death of Sarah Jane Finlay, aged 28. Her father, Dr Martyn Finlay, Q.C., is a former Labour M.P. and was At-torney-General from 1972' to 1975. In March 1983, Miss Finlay was sentenced to
nine months prison after being found guilty on charges of supplying heroin, possessing heroin for supply and supplying the drug palfium. A report from Dr Fraser McDonald, then superintendent of Carrington Hospital, said she was “severely psychologically disabled” and needed psychiatric intervention. Dr Finlay told the High Court at Auckland he and his wife first became, con-
cerned about their daughter’s condition when she was 14 and her attendance at Onslow College, Wellington, became intermittent. In Los Angeles, in 1978 she was twice admitted to hospital after swallowing a considerable number of tablets. Back in New Zealand in late 1978 she was enrolled on a methadone maintenance programme.
