Depots return to local ownership
Most Canterbury branches and depots of Transpac Holdings, a national haulage firm, are returning to local ownership. Transpac was placed in receivership in October last year. One of the joint receivers, Mr Bruce McAlister, of Deloitte, Haskins and Sells, in Christchurch, confirmed last evening that most of the Canterbury branches and depots had been sold. He said of the local sales, “We have moved virtually back to regional bases — away from the corporate structure. “The next alternative was to sell them as local operations — where they started from.” Meanwhile the Southbrook operation of Transpac has become a subsidiary company of Oxford Transport, Ltd, and will trade as Frews Transport, North Canterbury. The new company has been running since February 1 and will continue to do so from the Southbrook property. The operation was shifted to Southbrook from Rangiora early last year. Transpac had earlier taken over Transport North Canterbury, based in Rangiora, but the site was sold. ’ " > rt
