P.N.G. soldiers on rampage

NZPA-AAP Port Moresby The Papua New Guinea Government . yesterday caved in to the demands of mutinous soldiers who stormed Parliament, smashing dozens of windows and wrecking a food bar. The men, protesting against pay rises they claimed benefited only officers, defied orders to return to their barracks after a demonstration which blocked the main

highway through Port Moresby. About 600 soldiers and former members of the P.N.G. Defence Force double-timed through the streets of the city, holding up traffic, harassing civilians and assaulting journalists trying to cover the story and stealing their cameras. They rampaged round Parliament, chanting their demands for more money.
