Shotover plant recovered

PA Wellington L and M Mining said it had salvaged a Shotover River processing plant which overturned in a flood last September. L and M Mining general manager, Mr Albert Brantley, said high water levels had made salvage impossible till early last month when the river level dropped and weather improved. The company, which recovered 7543 ounces of gold in New Zealand last year, has two processing plants on the Shotover, one on the Kawarau River and three others on the West Coast near Hokitika. Mr Brantley said in a statement a block and tackle system anchored in the steep rock walls of the Shotover canyon was used to pull the 140 tonne plant upright A detailed assessment of damage would now be made and the plant would be recovering gold again by April, he said.
